Active Release Techniques® (ART®) is a patented, soft tissue movement system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved permanently with ART®.
These conditions are often caused by the overuse of muscles resulting in restricted motion, reduced circulation, and altered nerve function which leads to the formation of scare tissue (knots or adhesions) in the muscle. As the scar tissue builds up, it inhibits the muscles to contract normally and the muscles begin to lose their ability to function properly. This leads to the recruitment of other surrounding muscles to work harder as the body compensates. Without treatment, over time the body will not be able to compensate any more and pain will result.
Active Release Techniques® & Graston® works to break up the scare tissue adhesions in the muscle restoring normal function to the soft tissue. This system, along with chiropractic adjustments is one of the most effective ways to treat the cause of the injury, and consequently prevent future injuries from occurring. This is especially effective if the adhesion has altered blood circulation. Decreased blood flow results in a decreased amount of oxygen getting to the soft tissue, a primary factor in the production of new scar tissue. A treatment plan composed of chiropractic manipulation, along with ART®, proper nutrition, and proper rehabilitation is the most effective way to correct the cause of injury as well as prevent future injuries.
